Episode 10 of Season 4 of our Adelaide Connected Podcast features Dr. Jessica Bohorquez, Senior Civil Engineer from Aurecon.
Originally from Colombia in South America, Jessica moved to Adelaide in June 2017 and is what we call an ‘Arrow’, someone that was born outside South Australia but now calls it home.
Jessica is passionate about creating water curiosity and solving our water challenges. As a water engineer, she is delivering infrastructure projects for private organisations, water utilities and government. Jessica has developed numerical models of water systems, and has designed solutions that prepare us for a future where water might become more scarce.
In May, Jessica was awarded the 2025 Young Water Professional of the Year at the Australian Water Awards, a prestigious honour recognising the brightest talent shaping Australia’s water future. Jessica is the first South Australian professional and migrant from Colombia to win this award.
We chat to Jessica about her experience moving to Adelaide, what she loves about her new hometown and her future plans.
