The Committee for Adelaide, through the Adelaide Connected program, and in partnership with Thomsons, recently hosted a discussion on the importance of international talent and skilled migration in South Australia.
With large scale projects like AUKUS and T2D gaining momentum, and the growing need for workers in health, education, construction, ICT, energy and resources, now is the time to attract and retain international talent so that our economy can continue to increase.
We heard from Callan Markwick, Executive Director, Workforce, Population and Migration from Department of State Development who set the scene for a panel discussion which included Mirsia Bunjaku,CEO, Australian Migrant Resource Centre, Sonya Paterson, Manager, Migrant Attraction and Connection Skilled and Business Migration, Department of State Development, Janelle Gavin, Regional People Leader for Asia Pacific New Zealand Australia (APNA), Mott MacDonald, and Karlis Antons, Partner Global Project Lead – Space, Stanton Chase.
The discussion unpacked common myths and biases in recruitment processes and highlighted the opportunities for employers when it comes to attracting and retaining international talent. International and skilled migration will play an important role in South Australia’s future and it’s clear there are practical pathways for employers, industry, and government to work together to strengthen our state’s workforce and ensure our State continues to prosper for generations to come.
Adelaide Connected is proudly delivered by the Committee for Adelaide, with the support of a grant from the Department of State Development’s, ‘Skilled Migration Talent and Industry Connection Program’.
